New Essay by Dr. David Lewin in Ricoeur Volume

Dr. David Lewin, Project Scholar and Senior Lecturer in Philosophy of Education at Strathclyde University, has published a new essay entitled “The Pedagogical Relation in a Technological Age.” It is featured in the recently published volume, Interpreting Technology: Ricoeur on Questions Concerning Ethics and Philosophy of Technology (Rowman & Littlefield, 2021).

In the essay, Lewin explores how “technological thinking” shapes the anthropological presuppositions of contemporary education, and how the work of Paul Ricœur might illuminate the discipline of Education Studies in refreshing ways. More broadly, Interpreting Technology aims to put Ricœur’s work at the center of contemporary philosophical thinking concerning technology. It investigates his project of critical hermeneutics for rethinking established theories of technology, the growing ethical and political impacts of technologies on the modern lifeworld, and ways of analyzing global sociotechnical systems such as the Internet.
